St.Paul Cathedral has been set up in Kolkata, west Bengal.Its foundation was laid in 1939,and it was completely constructed in the year 1847.
The design of cathedral was given by Major W.N.Forbes.The architecture followed is Gothic.
This cathedral has been built thrice since the first two times it collapsed due to an earthquake which took place in 1897 followed by one in 1934.
The dimensions of cathedral are 247 ft length,81 ft width and height of 175 ft.
HISTORY
The church was completed in the year 1847 after 8 years.It is supported by Wilson,and it is said that he died, he was buried in a tomb underneath the altar of cathedral.Nearly 5 lakhs were spent in constructing the cathedral.Some resemblance can be traced between St.Paul Cathedral and Norwich cathedral of England.
