DASARA FESTIVAL
Dasara is one of the most auspicious festivals in India,gets a special celebration in the state of Karnataka.
Mysore  Dasara is known for its magnificent palaces and majestic buildings, sprawling gardens and tree lined boulevards.
The cultural and religious programs highlighting the dance, music and culture of the state of Karnataka are performed in front of the illuminated palace.


The main attraction of the dasars procession is the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari which is carried in a golden howdah weighing over 750 kg on the top of an Elephant back.
Mysore Dasara is a 10 day festival in the region culminating on vijayadashami or tenth day.

Legends has it that in the ancient times,Goddess Chamundeshwari killed demon Mahishasura.
The day on which the demon was killed by the Goddess ,came to be known as Vijayadashmi.Vijaydashmi falls on the last day of the Dasara festival.

The festival are carried on in a traditional way also known as Jamboo savari



In the 21 st century,processions of the Dasara festival are carried on in a traditional walk also known as Jamboo savari. In this festival beautiful decorated elephants carries the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari. There will be company of dance groups,music bands,folkes,armed forces and they will go upto Bannimantap.
