Assumption church was built in the year 1841 by the French.It was originally built in 1752 for which the foundation was laid by Madamme Dupleix.
The old church was destroyed in the storm and then the existing church was built.

5.CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF HEALTH
Church of our lady of health is located in Ariyankuppam which is 10 km from pondicherry city.
After the French coming to Pondicherry in 1673,Armenians under the leadership of Bishop ADDA SIMON had built at Ariankuppam a church by name OUR LADY OF CONCEPTION in 1960.This is famous pilgrimage in pondicherry.

6.OUR LADY OF LOURDES
Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine is a famous Marian shrine located in villianur town,pondicherry.
In 1867 te MEPmissionaries of pondicherry wished to build a chapel at Villianur which is 13 km away from pondicherry.
It has taken atleast 10 years to complete the Chapel.
The Architecture style of this church is Gothic Revival achitecture.
